She may only be young, but Daniela Brooker has been working on her dream of pursuing a music career since she was 13. Having recently been announced as the support act for The Saturday’s upcoming arena tour, we caught up with Daniela to see how she’s feeling…
MTTM: Congratulations on securing the support slot on The Saturdays tour! How are you feeling about joining the girls on tour and playing to the huge arena crowds?
Daniela Brooker: I am so excited to be part of such a great show! It’s going to be an amazing experience for me, I can’t wait!
MTTM: How does it feel to be touring the world when most of your peers are starting university?
DB: Haha, I am very fortunate to be able to do what I love and travel so I definitely make the most of it!
MTTM: What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
DB: I have always loved everything to do with entertainment but music was always what I wanted to do. Listing to artists such as Etta James and Christina Aguilera definitely inspired me to want to become a singer/ songwriter.
MTTM: And how did this progress to actually recording your songs and gaining media attention?
DB: I recorded a demo cd when I was 13 and sent it to every registered label in the UK…I didn’t realise then that it never works out that way! So by recording, writing and gigging I started to meet people in the music industry and slowly I have made great contacts that are helping me create an album and put on shows!
MTTM: You’ve only uploaded 9 Youtube videos but have had over 2 million channel views. Do you feel the online community have really got behind you to show their support?
DB: I think the internet is incredible in publicising artists that otherwise wouldn’t get exposure. I really think having videos online and having all the different social networking sites really has helped me form a fan base and get a personal relationship and feedback from the public… So yeah, it definitely helps having support online!
MTTM: Do you think your international childhood [Brooker visits her mum’s native Venezuela every year] has set you up better for touring around the world?
DB: Yes! I am used to being in different cultures and adapting as I think it I very important to when playing abroad.
MTTM: Other than The Saturdays, who would you most like to join on tour?
DB: I would love to tour with Beyonce as I think she is the most incredible live performer of this time! I love her glamourous shows! I watch live footage of her performing almost every evening.
MTTM: What’s next for you? Is there an upcoming album?
DB: I have a single being released mid January called Forget About Yesterday. I will be filming the video in November when I return to the UK! I’m so excited for that track to come out and I plan on releasing an EP next year! Other than that, just writing and performing constantly!
