How did you meet and what’s the story behind your band name?
We have know each other for years through the songwriting community here in Nashville but we started this band after a number one party Stoner had written a Woman Like You for Lee Brice and I was just wanting to write songs with him. We sat in a room and started jamming on some Paulo Nutini songs and pretty much felt the magic in the moment. The name came after a song I had written called Young in America. Jon didn’t like the song but he said, “American Young. That would be a dope band name.” The rest is history.
How would you describe your music?
Honest. We write about real life and our experiences. We are very lyrically driven but we both are multi instrumentalists and we really love the whole jam band thing. I grew up being such a fan of Dave Matthews and Bob Wills… so we could be on stage pickin’ for hours.
What have you been up to so far and what can we expect over the coming months?
We are constantly in the studio while in Nashville writing and working towards our next project. As far as touring goes… we have been having a BLAST touring Europe and it’s so exciting to see Country on a global level!!! We love to travel and to meet people from around the world!
If you could duet with anybody who would it be and why?
I would love to sing with Dolly Parton. Obviously. She’s the best thing about Tennessee!!! Or Coldplay. They are everything great about a band.
What’s your desert island disc and why would you take this one album?
Coldplay Ghost Stories. I’m obsessed.
