Fast Five: Asylums

How did you meet and what’s the story behind your band name?

We had all played in various other bands and knew each other that way in the local Southend music scene, there was no grand design behind the name it just fell into my head one day while I was walking up a large hill towards my flat. I think I had recently read ‘The Killing Joke’ a Batman comic by Alan Moore, on the first page Batman pulls up outside Arkham Asylum, maybe there’s a connection.

How would you describe your music?

Fast, manic, stupid, melodic, fun and genuine.

What have you been up to so far and what can we expect over the coming months?

We have been tying up all the loose ends with our debut album ‘Killer Brain Waves’ recently, mastering, finalising artwork & packaging. We have also been playing some cool shows, last Tuesday we played with our friends in Nothing But Thieves…..they are also from Southend. The next few months we will be gigging, playing festivals, doing radio sessions, interviews, writing more music and making more videos.

If you could duet with anybody who would it be and why?

I’d like to duet with Ren from the cartoon Ren & Stimpy, we are both on the same wavelength.

What’s your desert island disc and why would you take this one album?

That’s a tough one but I’d say De La Soul – Three Feet High & Rising.
