Fast Five: The Bloom

How did you meet and what’s the story behind your band name?

We met in East London last year. All our members previously played in different bands around town and we met through mutual friends.

I wasn’t sure if I was ever going to tell anybody this or not but the real story behind the name is that I was trying to order a beer when I was a bit drunk and slurred my order. I asked for a pint of the blue moon but instead blurted out “The Bloom”. Afterwards I thought that would be a good band name and if I ever start a band that’s what i’m gonna call it.

How would you describe your music?

Our music is indie rock with a bit of pop, americana and electro thrown in. We draw inspiration from acts like Band of Horses and Ryan Adams.

What have you been up to so far and what can we expect over the coming months?

We have just released our first single “How It Starts” and will be getting out there this summer to play some shows around the U.K. And mainland Europe.

If you could duet with anybody who would it be and why?

Hands down Otis Redding but I would secretly mime and just listen to him go nuts.

What’s your desert island disc and why would you take this one album?

It might be a bit of a cliché but for me it would have to be the white album by The Beatles. So many classic songs I never get sick of. Just songwriting and playing at it’s best. I could zone out on it and almost forget i’m stuck on a desert island and my numbers up.
