When did you begin making music, and did you ever ponder a different career?
I first got in touch with music very early as my mom has been singing in a choir ever since. She used to take me to the rehearsals when she would not find a babysitter. Later on I took piano lessons (but I did not really catch fire) and then started to play the electric guitar in my teens (now we are talking!). Since these days I was dreaming of being a professional artist and nothing else but it took me some more years to have the guts and go for it. In the meantime I thought about becoming a detective or a philosopher. But then I slowly realized that making music is that one thing I am both good at and what makes me feel the most lively.
How would you describe your music?
It is basically singer-songwriter or folk, some call it alternative folk or just alternative. It has got some blues and rock influences as well as an artsy touch to it sometimes. Thomas Dybdahl, a Norwegian singer-songwriter had a huge impact on my way of perceiving and writing songs. So did Bon Iver and Ryan Adams, also Eels. My music is anyhow the attempt to approach things that lie deeper inside us (or above us?) and that we can not precisely name or explain yet. Also writing songs feels to me like bringing something into a certain form and holding it together, when I feel parted or shattered myself.
What have you been up to so far and what can we expect over the coming months?
The last couple of months I recorded the songs for my debut EP, together with my producer Niklas Kramer (Still Parade). The songs developed over the last one 1 to 1,5 years – a phase that was kind of eventful for me due to health issues, falling deeply in love with a very special woman and certain things that you learn about yourself day by day I guess. I then retreated into a cabin on the countryside to finish the songs and familiarize with the thought to really start my career as a professional artist. The first single of the EP has just been released and I am totally excited about that dream of mine coming true. Next steps for me would be release the rest of the EP and start touring.
If you could duet with anybody who would it be and why?
Norah Jones, definitely. I melt down when I listen to her voice.. Pretty cheesy answer, right?
What’s your desert island disc and why would you take this one album?
Depends on where that island would be located or at what season I’d be there. If autumn or winter style – Bon Iver / „For Emma for ever ago“. For everything else it would be either Eels / „Shootenany!“ or AC/DC / „High Voltage“. The latter would definitely make me be like „I will now f****ing build a raft and escape from here!“
