Fast Five: Goldray

How did you meet and what’s the story behind your and name?

Leah: Funnily enough, Kenwyn and I met in Glastonbury high street, there’s a long story about that one…….We might tell you over a few beers one day! Lets just say that we hit it off straight away and it wasn’t long before we had a great jam together and that was it Goldray was born!

As far as the name,  I became interested in gold when I discovered that Gold actually has a Crystalline  structure and is meant to be very beneficial for the human body. It’s mainly known for it’s financial properties but it’s actually meant to be more about the  balance it can give to you on an emotional level as well as on the material.  Apparently this is why kings and queens  have always worn so much of it!

How would you describe your music?

Kenwyn: Hmmm.. Well it’s kind of alternative rock with a psychedelic twist and a haunting female vocal.. it’s always hard to describe what you do, but that’s as close as i can get using words!

What have you been up to so far and what can we expect over the coming months?

Leah: We’ve been working hard writing and recording the album. Recording drums with our new drummer Andy Treacey (Faithless) and getting the live side of the band sorted as well. The next coming months will see our debut single ‘Don’t walk away’ out on July 30th. Finishing our album, possibly another single, lots of live performances over the winter and an album release early 2013 and then a summer of festivals!

If you could duet with anybody who would it be and why?

Leah: Oh for me it would have to be either John Lennon or Jim Morrison, doesn’t help that their both no longer alive I know, so I won’t be living out that dream…I have a good imagination tho! They’re both amazing lyricists, especially John, plus they’re pretty out there and not afraid to push the boundaries…I like that! For anyone alive…Patti Smith as she’s not grown up, respect!

Kenwyn:Jimi Hendrix, Nick Drake, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen ..in no particular order! Reasons why….For any guitarist to play with Jimi would amazing, plus I love his songs…The other are great songwriters, be great to do a co write with any these guys.

What’s your desert island disc and why would you take this one album?

Kenwyn: Hunky Dory by Bowie…? Revolver by the Beatles…? Led Zeppelin IV or II ?…Songs for the deaf by QOTSA..?.. Wouldn’t life be shit with only one album to listen to?
