Fast Five: Half Hour Hotel

How did you meet and what’s the story behind your band name?

We all met in a Wetherspoons Pub in Bournemouth a few years back. Kev, Lew and Dave were at Music college there and Essex was down for a sunny weekend. We were doing other musical projects at the time; Kev was in a few other bands, Essex was drumming for a band while at Performing Arts College in London and Dave and Lew were writing future hits together.

We relocated to Brighton and in the winter of 2011 formed a band together. Brighton has that effect. The band name was a long and painful process, we nearly quit before we started, Essex came up with it finally.. he wont tell us the inspiration… but he did disappear for a long weekend and then returned with the idea.

How would you describe your music?

We had all been to festivals together and share similar tastes. We wanted to create something with a big sound, full of energy with a good melody running through it. I guess influences wise we all grew up with Oasis, Phonics and Manics – they inspired us to be in a band. More recently we love the work of Elbow, Maccabees and Sigur Ros, just accomplished musicians that make a great noise

What have you been up to so far and what can we expect over the coming months?

We have just released our Debut single Run from Sirens on February 18th, produced by the excellent Pete Hutchings (Kylie, Gaga). The video of which is on YouTube, and is directed by the BAFTA award winning David Trevail (not for this video you understand).

If you could duet with anybody who would it be and why?

I think individually we would all give different answers so at a push I think we would all agree on Noel Gallagher.. One of the reasons we picked up instruments

What’s your desert island disc and why would you take this one album?

We couldn’t come up with a band name for ages, you think we can all agree on just one album! 😉
