How did you meet and what’s the story behind your and name?
Arlene: Think it was 1997 in college, I was playing drums at the time and Neo stole me to be in his band! I used to see his around Cumbernauld before then and already decided I hated him cause I thought he was trying to be Kurt Cobain, he had the black and red stripy jumper on and long blond hair, how dare he!! ha ha ha 15 years on and we are still making music together so I suppose he’s alright! The name was just something Neo babbled out one day at practise with our old band, it just kinda stuck. Who really knows what goes on inside his head, but it fun getting him to try and tell you!
Neo: In 1997 a crack musical unit was sent to prison by a Pop Idol judging panel for music crimes they didn’t commit. The dynamic duo promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Cumbernauld underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as Pop stars of fortune. If you have a event, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire Hotstuff & the Eyecandy. It was a dare Hotstuff & the Eyecandy sounded exactly what would go with the noises we make?
How would you describe your music?
Arlene: Dirty Hot Electro Power Pop! Music that makes you wanna dance and shake your hips but with just the right amount of grit!
Neo: Dirty Hot Electro Power Pop
What have you been up to so far and what can we expect over the coming months?
Arlene: Over the past few months we’ve been busy getting the single sorted, practising and writing new tunes. We pretty much never stop. We don’t live in the same country at the moment so any time together is precious, so we try do as much as possible, but we never stop writing, there is always sounds to mess about with and turn into some Hotstuff magic!! ha ha. In the.next few months we’ll be trying to get the message out there, promote the single, start work on the next one and get ready for our tour in November.
Neo: We have been busy working on the single and our launch party, writing and recording looking forward to adventure and exploring new and interesting places and spreading the word of Hotstuff with my sidekick Arlene
If you could duet with anybody who would it be and why?
Arlene: I’m more interested in who wants to duet with us!! ha ha. But I’d probably want to duet with Dépêche Mode and Sonic Youth at the same time. Lots of noises, crazy sounds and catchy as hell! Very greedy I know.
Neo: Whatever Arlene said as I just do what I’m told.
What’s your desert island disc and why would you take this one album?
Arlene: This is too hard! Hmm I know Neo will probably pick some cheesy disco or something so if we were on the island together I would blast some Cyndi Lauper A Night to Remember at him. Possibly one of the first records I could sing start to finish, well that and a bit of Thriller!
Leo: Now That’s What I Call Music 17: Primal Scream, Dépêche Mode, Faith no More, Happy Mondays, Technotronic, Adamski and Cliff Richard all on one album and not to forget white reggae legends and Alan Partridge favourites UB40
