Fast Five: The Persian Leaps

How did you meet and what’s the story behind your band name?

The Persian Leaps is a phrase Drew Forsberg (guitars/vocals) doodled in a notebook during a college Greek archaeology class. He wrote Persian Leaps songs & recorded at home for years before he found the right people (Mike McCloskey on drums, Brad Hendrickson on bass) to actually form the band.

How would you describe your music?

Noise pop is our favourite description. Chiming, driving, hooky, pop-song structures but coated with fuzz.

What have you been up to so far and what can we expect over the coming months?

We released our first EP, Praise Elephants, in Fall 2013. We’re working on our next 5-song EP and hope to have it ready in Fall 2014.

If you could duet with anybody who would it be and why?

Drew: Alejandra Deheza from School of Seven Bells. Phenomenal voice on her own but harmonies are huge part of her sound, and we LOVE harmonies.

What’s your desert island disc and why would you take this one album?

Drew: My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless. Ground-breaking sounds and textures BUT… underneath all that, hooks for days.
Brad: Weezer’s Blue Album: the 10 solid songs, the 6/8, the countermelody — a fun, wry, accessible garage rock!
Mike: The Ocean Blue’s 1991 release: Cerulean. Happy songs with plenty of hooks and great harmonies. Pop Rock Bliss!
