Fast Five: Rupert Stroud

When did you begin making music, and did you ever ponder a different career?

I started playing guitar and singing from about the age of fifteen, formed a couple bands at school and music became a big passion of mine. So when the time came to make the decision, I applied to study Music and Media at university, after school. This just affirmed my love for music and inspired me to work hard at this passion, to turn it into a career. I started gigging regularly as a solo acoustic act and putting myself out there on the local Yorkshire scene around 2009/2010.

How would you describe your music?

I would describe myself as an alternative singer/songwriter. I aim to make music which isn’t strictly stuck in one particular genre, but then again not straying too far away from alternative/indie/acoustic music really.

What have you been up to so far and what can we expect over the coming months?

Well, since starting a couple years ago, I’ve released two self-funded and self-released albums on all major online stores and through my official website (www.rupertstroudmusic.com). In April this year, I released a charity single entitled “Always”, in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK. The song was dedicated to my grandma, who suffered with the disease for the last 7 years of her life before passing away in 2009. So far with my fundraising campaign I’ve raised over £5,500. I’ve had amazing support from the charity who have since made me a Volunteers spokesperson for the UK. My aim is to try get younger generations involved in Alzhiemer’s and dementia research; raising awareness and funds for the charity has become a big focus in my life and is something I endeavour to continue throughout my career!

Looking forward – On September 24th, I release my brand new single “Twisted Games”, which I’m very excited about. We’ve got an ace music video for it too! Along with the release of “Twisted Games”, I’m releasing the other single “No Peace of mind”. Both will be available worldwide on iTunes, Amazon and Bandcamp! And we’re going to be gigging around the UK promoting the singles, so keep your eyes peeled on www.rupertstroudmusic.com and the Facebook and Twitter pages.

If you could duet with anybody who would it be and why?

Rhianna! Everything she touches seems to turn to gold and I can image it’d be a lot of fun too so if you have her number…?

What’s your desert island disc and why would you take this one album?

That’s a tough question!… I usually answer with Legend by Bob Marley. Being on a desert island, you would need something to keep your hopes up… and you cannot listen to Bob Marley and not be put in a good mood!
