Fast Five: Scarlet

When did you begin making music, and did you ever ponder a different career?

I began making music when I was 13. I was heavily influenced by the popular singer songwriters of that time, I wrote mainly on my acoustic guitar but I also wrote on the piano. I did want to be an actress when I was younger, but an actress who sang! Then music slowly took over.

How would you describe your music?

My music is an eclectic mix of a lot of influences. I mainly now write on guitar, so that’s always a prominent factor of my music but I love drums, so I like to mix acoustic with processed drum sounds. Lyrics are extremely important to me so I mainly tend to start with them when writing. Everything I write comes from a place of truth.

What have you been up to so far and what can we expect over the coming months?

This year has been a crazy one. I was lucky enough to play the BBC Introducing stage at Secret Garden Party festival. I then was invited on tour with Ward Thomas (UK Number 1 album recently) for their sold out shows in England. I will be releasing my first EP in early March next year!

If you could duet with anybody who would it be and why?

Ah! That’s a really tough question. Florence Welch really excites me. Her music is euphoric and it constantly evolves. She is also magical to watch live.

What’s your desert island disc and why would you take this one album?

My desert island disc would be “Wilder Mind” by Mumford and Sons as I think it contains songs that everyone can relate to and songs for every emotion. I also love the mix of acoustic and electric, again an evolution of a band that really influence me.
