Fast Five: Shirock

How did you meet and what’s the story behind your band name?

Chuck and I (Pap) met when we were 17, at a high school youth leadership conference. I was leaving for a year abroad in Ecuador in a few weeks, but we exchanged information and kept in touch the whole time I was gone and when I got home we started dating. It wasn’t long before we were collaborating on music. The band name, SHIROCK, is also our last name…so I guess it came from Italy, where Chuck’s family is from.

How would you describe your music?

It’s somewhere in the realm of alternative, pop & rock…I like to call it pretty rock or melodic rock because there’s a lot of keyboards/synths and because of the mix of male/female vocals.

What have you been up to so far and what can we expect over the coming months?

In the last few years we have been touring a lot, and also recorded and put out in the States, our first full-length album (Everything Burns), which we are about to release in the UK. In the next few months we hope to be coming over to tour in Europe to support the release!

If you could duet with anybody who would it be and why?

I am a permanent part of a duo! But in addition, if I could personally duet with any other person it would be Peter Gabriel – love everything about him and his music.

What’s your desert island disc and why would you take this one album?

My desert island disc is Radiohead’s ‘The Bends’ – it’s the first album I bought myself, when I was really beginning to fall in love with music (that wasn’t my parents music), and every song brings back vivid memories and also inspires new things in me every time I listen.
