Fast Five: Steve Young

When did you begin making music, and did you ever ponder a different career?

I wrote my first song back in 1995, yes I even tried a few real jobs (I have a diploma in Engineering) but the music just wouldn’t lie down.

How would you describe your music?

Singer/Songwriter with overtones of Country, Pop, Rock, Blues & Folk… my life would be much easier if I settled into one genre.

What have you been up to so far and what can we expect over the coming months?

Since 2014 I have released an EP and four singles. My debut album is out in June 2016 and I’ve been recording that since Jan, maybe a few shows and tasty support slots to follow.

If you could duet with anybody who would it be and why?

Darren Hayes from the Aussie band Savage Garden. I spent 5 years as his guitarist and eventually became a co-writer on his last album. He has given me so much courage and support and it would be such a pleasure to sit on stage with him and sing a song as two artists instead of Artist and employee.

What’s your desert island disc and why would you take this one album?

Pink Floyd – Delicate Sound of Thunder. They are not songs – they are my friends. I know them well and would be happy to spend my thirst ridden, sun drenched days of slow starvation and madness in their company.
