Fast Five: The Lightwings

How did you meet and what’s the story behind your band name?

We met through mutual friends, and formed the band in The Barrowboy and Banker in London Bridge when one pint turned into five. The name came from an armwrestle; Luke wanted to call us The Gayboys, everyone else liked the Lightwings, Luke lost!

How would you describe your music?

We call it Beatpop, a fusion of beat music from the 60’s and 90’s britpop. We have been likened to Blur, The Beatles, and The La’s by various people.

What have you been up to so far and what can we expect over the coming months?

We released our first single last year, this year we are releasing a double a-side of Cheap Riches and Revolutions on March 25th, followed by our debut album, Sleeping Is Not For Dreamers on April 15th. We’ve got an album launch party at the Macbeth in London followed by UK shows and two gigs at The Cavern Club in Liverpool on May 18th/19th.

If you could duet with anybody who would it be and why?

Noel Gallagher, I think he would fit well into The Lightwings!

What’s your desert island disc and why would you take this one album?

Definitely Maybe, it reminds me of good times, when guitar music ruled the charts.

The Album “Sleeping Is Not For Dreamers” is released April 15th on Beatnik Geek Records.
