Home > Focus On Festivals > Focus on Festivals: Fairport’s Cropredy Convention
Since Fairport Convention’s formation some 45 years ago, the ever changing line up has always had one thing in common; a dedication to music. It comes as no surprise then that the festival based in Oxfordshire regularly boasts one of the most exciting line up’s in the festival season and with the likes of Joan Armatrading, former Convention member Richard Thompson, and relative newcomers Ellen and the Escapades all on the bill, this year is no exception to that rule. Elsewhere there are sets from Bellowhead and the Saw Doctors, meaning the front of the stage which is customarily reserved for those wishing to dance is likely to be well trodden by the time the weekend is out.
In a market where festivals are cropping up left right and centre, the longevity of Cropredy is no doubt in part due to it’s relaxed atmosphere, and the trademark finale performance from Fairport Convention completed by the closing rendition of Meet On The Ledge. With a capacity of 20,000 and a single stage, there’s no need to plan a well timed route round the site as you would with the likes of Glastonbury, and their website claims that ‘Cropredy Virgins are given an especially warm welcome’ marking it apart as one of the friendlier places for newbies to the festival scene.
Fairport’s Cropredy Convention takes place from Thursday 9th through to Sunday 11th August, and tickets are priced at just £100 including camping.
