Focus On Festivals: Belladrum 2012

Beauly in Inverness-shire opens its gates once again from August 3rd-4th as the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival returns for it’s 8th year. The fairly new fest features all the things you’d expect from a less mainstream weekend: a modest – but still excellent – line-up, local tipple (good ol’ Scotch whisky) and a bike race called Sweaty Bella (no, really).

This year sees Scottish stalwarts Travis headline alongside cheeky indie-pop scamps The Wombats. Other acts to join the bill range from Celtic folk to pop and rock and include Frightened Rabbit, We Are Scientists, Beverley Knight, Juan Zelada and Slow Club.

Every year Bella, like a lot of other festivals, encourages fancy dress with a chosen theme in mind. This year is no exception as festival-goers are invited to dress up as ‘Royalty,’ no doubt in line with a certain Miss Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee. And with a catwalk display to show off your creative masterpiece, and prizes to be won for the effort, who wouldn’t want to take part?

Early Bird tickets sold out for just an hour way back in September; with a stellar reputation and the promise of an Olympic viewing area, it’s not surprising. The first Bella Bride has also been booked for 2012, and any other wildly in love Bella-goers are advised to email info@tartanheartfestival.co.uk if they are considering getting married at Belladrum Temple.
