Cambridge is the Glastonbury of the folk calendar, and every year boasts an eclectic range of musicians from across the genre. 2012 promises what could be the best line-up yet, with Seth Lakeman, Lau, The Unthanks, Karine Polwart, Gretchen Peters and Roy Harper all already announced to play, alongside the first full public performance from Nic Jones in some 30 years.
Away from the stellar line-up of established artists Cambridge has also become known for supporting new talent, offering 11-18 year olds the chance to perform live in the Club Tent as part of it’s Young Musicians Competition, encouraging spontaneous music and sessions around the site, and last year adding ‘The Den’ – a brand new stage dedicated to emerging talent.
Once again there are also likely to be a number of other entertainers and a selection of workshops running over the weekend. More details to be released soon.
Cambridge Folk Festival takes place from 26 – 29 July 2012. Tickets are available from it’s website, but be warned they often sell out quickly.
