Focus On Festivals: RockNess 2012

Dubbed “the only festival with it’s own monster,” 2012’s RockNess will take place on the banks of Loch Ness from Friday the 8th to Sunday the 10th of June. It has been announced that the weekend headliners will be Mumford and Sons, Ed Sheeran, Deadmau5, Justice, Biffy Clyro and Friendly Fires, ensuring RockNess will storm to it’s sixth year.

The festival started in 2006 when Fatboy Slim brought his Brighton beach party north of the border to much acclaim – all 20,000 tickets were sold and the festival was a massive success. 2008 saw promoter AEG take hold of the festival which was originally predominantly known for a bill full of dance acts. RockNess has seen a larger amount of indie bands on the bill over the past few years – a formula that clearly works as the festival is growing each and every year it takes place.

RockNess has just been named best small festival at the NME awards – the award is voted for by the magazine’s readers. The festival has taken the title for the second year running, managing to beat competition from other festivals including Latitude, Kendal Calling, Hope Farm and Field Day.

Other acts on the bill for 2012 are techno legend Dave Clarke, Annie Mac, The Rapture, raps hottest female Azealia Banks, Zane Lowe and Mylo, who makes a welcome return to the festival after he played the first six years ago. Tim Minchin has also been announced as this years comedy booking.

Many more announcements are due to follow in the coming months. RockNess takes place on the banks of Loch Ness from Friday the 8th until Sunday the 10th of June, tickets are available from RockNess.co.uk where you can also view the full line up so far.
