Introducing Kof

Isabelle Salter

Self described as a ‘diamond in the dirt’, KOF is easily the most exciting thing to come out of the urban underground in a long time. Producing some infectious urban/electro crossover tunes, he fits in quite comfortably with the artists currently thriving in that scene, such as Tinie Tempah, Tinchy Stryder and Dizzee Rascal, who he has previously supported.

Gaining growing respect amongst both the underground and more commercial urban scenes, KOF has been recognised as an extremely talented emerging artist by legendary hip hop DJ Ras Kwame, BBC Radio 1Xtra, Mixmag and DJ Mag.

Collaborating with the likes of Wiley, Sway and Jaguar Skills, KOF means business. His lyrics are original, clever and funny, which makes a nice change from the aforementioned Tinie Tempah (well, his lyrics are funny, but for the wrong reasons), and his first offering, Fire It Up, gained the prestigious title of MOBO Single of the Week when it was released in July 2010.

It’s a refreshing change to see an artist in this genre coming from Liverpool, as the urban scene is heavily under-represented in Merseyside. However the urban scene is developing, with an increasing amount of exciting new faces breaking through.
