Introducing Lou Hickey

Dubbed as “that lassie who was in a band with Jon Fratelli” sells Scots Singer Lou Hickey tremendously short. Not only was Hickey one half of Codeine Velvet Club along with The Fratelli’s frontman Jon Lawler, she is also the singing star of Club Noir’s glamorous themed nights, has 2 EPs under her belt, is a sought-after Club DJ, and is fast-becoming one of Scotland’s most interesting rising stars.

Formed in 2008, Codeine Velvet Club threw Hickey into the spotlight and catapulted her to the dizzying highs of a successful debut album, and sold-out UK Tour. However, the group’s split in 2010 has recently seen Hickey fly solo. The last 12 months have been a rollercoaster ride for the sultry singer, with a sold-out headline slot at Glasgow’s famous King Tut’s, solo shows in London, a coveted slot at 2010’s T In The Park festival, and a support spot for Martha & The Vandella’s in late December 2010. The bulk of 2010, however, saw Miss Hickey work on her debut offering, which was partly funded by Scotland Arts Council, and is set for release in the spring. All this has seen her grow in popularity with fans and critics alike, with her ‘jazz-pop’, infectious live sets.

2010 marked the foundations of bigger and better things to come for Hickey, who in 2011 looks set to follow in the footsteps of fellow Scots such as Amy MacDonald and Paolo Nutini, in becoming one of Scotland’s most promising and prominent Solo stars.
