London Feis 2011

Lisa Ward

What better way to spend a summer weekend, than celebrating 21 years of the best Irish and International Music, than in Finsbury park? Add headline slots from Bob Dylan and Van Morrison, as well as The Cranberries, The Saw Doctors, Eddi Reader and Nanci Griffith to name just a few and London Feis could well be on its way to being the one date not to miss this summer. Set over 4 stages, other highlights of the weekend include Christy Moore, The Gaslight Anthem, Wallis Bird and Imelda May.

As a continuation of the Fleadh festivals which were organised by Vince Power (founder of the Mean Fiddler Group, Hop Farm Music Festival and Benicassim) this year’s Feis is billed as ‘Irish in flavour, international in reach’. A take on music which boosts and eclectic line up with an up tempo feel good vibe. Vince has hosted some of the biggest names in Irish and International music and the London Feis will be a celebration of all the acts Vince has worked with over the years.

As Dylan’s only UK performance in the year of his 70th Birthday, the festival has wisely opted for a ‘Dylan only ticket’, a mere snip at just £40, but those keen to catch more of the acts can select from day tickets (£70 for the Saturday and £60 for the Sunday ) or weekend tickets at just £120. Though there’s no camping on site, since its set in the heart of London accommodation is unlikely to cause a problem and there are green coach options available to those attending the festival from elsewhere in the country.
