Last week MTTM included The Orgasmatron club night in Shoreditch’s Favela Chic. Those of you smart enough to attend would have been witness to a secret set by X Factor winner Matt Cardle who wowed audiences with his version of Dolly Parton classic Jolene. The club night which has been in production for many years often surprises its audience with unexpected performers; these have previously included Katie Melua and Example. With the sad news of Amy Winehouse’s death still rocking the musical world, musicians and fans alike are displaying the best ways to honour the singer. Music legend and hero of Amy Winehouse, Ronnie Spector has covered one of Winehouses best known songs Back To Black. The song will be available for download and the proceeds are set to go to charity. November 14th sees the release of the director’s cut of the infamous album. Pete Townshend has said that this is the album that he is most proud of. Recorded in 1973, the album went on to inspire the eponymous movie which was released in 1979. The DVD and a hardback book are included in the boxset.
Unfortunately due to illness 36 Crazyfists have had to cancel their upcoming UK tour. The tour has been cancelled due to a family illness for the singer Brock Lindow. The singer offered his apologies in the following statement – ‘Dear friends, It is with great sadness that I am writing you all to let you know that we will not be able to tour Europe in October this year. I have a family member who is very ill and I must be at home to help and support my family in every way I can. We will definitely make it up to all our friends who had planned on attending the shows. All of you mean everything to us and we are so grateful…thanks for your understanding and we will see you with a new album next year. All my respect, Brock 36CF.’ The band have no plans to reschedule the dates.
The Selecter, having recently covered Amy Winehouse’s notable record Back To Black have halted downloads. The single was eerily released the day of Amy Winehouse’s death. The band have pulled downloads in respect to Amy Winehouse’s family, friends and fans who are still in mourning over her untimely death.
It has been 10 years since the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou? starring George Clooney was released. Interestingly the soundtrack to the album became one of the 10 top selling soundrack albums of all time. This August see’s the release of the album in a special 2 disc edition to celebrate a decade passing since its release. The Coen brothers film saw legendary music producer T Bone Burnett have create control over the soundtracks production. The re-release will be available August 29th.
With their new album The Loudest Album coming out September 12th and their first single from the album Into The Sky available from September 5th the quartet are feeling a tad generous. Punk legend Poly Styrene who died earlier this year after a battle with cancer is set to have a posthumous record release. The single Ghoulish will be released August 8th and is taken from the completed album Generation Indigo.
Amy Winehouse’s funeral was held on Tuesday. The small ceremony saw the celebration of the singer’s short lived life with 400 guests in attendance including music producer Mark Ronson and long time friend Kelly Osbourne who flew in from America to attend. The streets of Camden, Amy Winehouse’s home during the past few years became a sight for fans tributes including flowers, letters and candles.
