Lisa Bentley



Clarence Clemons 11/01/1942 – 18/6/2011

Clarence Clemons died this week aged 69.  He was hospitalised after having a stroke.  The legendary saxophonist spent his career touring with Bruce Springsteen as part of the E Street Band.  Known as Big Man to his friends due to his height and frame Clemons playing was notable on Springsteen’s records.  Bruce Springsteen has commented that the loss is ‘immeasurable.’  Clemons most notable performances were with the E Street Band however his influence and impact on contemporary music can be seen with his most recent collaborations, playing saxophone on two tracks on Lady Gaga’s Born This Way album.  He will be sadly missed.

Amy Winehouse Cancels Shows

Amy Winehouse has cancelled several shows on her current tour.  The news comes after she was booed and jeered whilst on stage.  The singer was said to have mumbled through songs giving a lack lustre performance which created such a reaction from fans.  The next show she will perform will be in Spain on 8th July.

Fire Your Questions to the Band

From June 14th to June 27th Arcade Fire have opened their facebook page for fans to ask the band questions.  The band will answer a selected few by the 27th June.  Got a question for the band?  Get involved and get asking.

Biffy Clyro Live In Your Living Room

Previously MTTM told you that Biffy Clyro were set to release new CD and DVD.  We are back to tell you that the highlights of Revolutions/Live at Wembley is set for interactive broadcast at www.BiffyClyro.com on June 21st at 7pm BST.  Get involved.

Ben Howard Cleans Up

Ben Howard is attached to the beach clean-up project ran by Barefoot Wine and Surfers Against Sewage.  The project aims to keep Britain’s beaches clean for pedestrians and for wildlife.  Ben Howard will be helping the cause by performing an exclusive invitation only acoustic set for volunteers.  Howard has said “I grew up in south Devon and so the coast has always played a huge part in my life – I still surf when I can. Barefoot Wine and SAS’s events this summer are a great idea – it will make a huge difference in keeping as many beaches as possible barefoot friendly. I’m really excited about getting involved and looking forward to meeting as many volunteers as I can over the summer”.   The dates that Howard will be performing for volunteers are Porthtowan, Cornwall on June 26th, Kingsbarn, Fife, Scotland on July 9th and Whitley Bay, North Tyneside on August 26th 2011.

Arctic Monkeys announce support

Last week MTTM announced details of Arctic Monkeys autumn tour.  This week we are pleased to announce that the band will be joined on tour  by The Vaccines.

Take That release more tickets

More tickets have become available for Take That’s Progress tour.  It has been announced that the first three dates of the bands eight day residency at Wembley Stadium is set to be recorded for the live DVD.  Tickets will cost between £29.50 and £39.50 and are available now.

Festival Films Featuring PJ Harvey

In the cinema tents at this year’s festivals PJ Harvey’s fans are in for an interesting treat.  Seamus Murphy has created a series of films all featuring tracks from Harvey’s Let England Shake album.  The songs have inspired the subjects of the short films which are dedicated to Englishness, what it means to be English and English ways of life.  Catch them at your festivals this year.

Songs in A Minor’s tenth Anniversary

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the release of Alicia Keys debut album Songs in A Minor the album is set to be rereleased, this time with additional features such as documentary DVD, original demos and live performances, all said to have been picked personally by Keys for her fans.  The original release of the album saw Keys shoot to fame, awarding the singer her first five Grammys and having total worldwide sales of over 11 million.  The album will be rereleased June 27th.

Domino and Stussy T-Shirts

Domino and Stussy have teamed up to create and sell punk tees.  The T-Shirts will feature bands such as The Randoms and The Screamers and are available for £25 and can be purchased at www.dominorecords.co.uk.  Those who buy a t-shirt will also receive a mix CD of California Punk tracks.  A bit more bang for your buck.

Friends of Jack

The 9th of June saw a Jack Daniels collection of music memorabilia being set to auction in aid of Warchild.  The charity’s aim is to assist children who are left destitute and living in terrible conditions through the affects of war.  Items up for auction included Carl Barat’s t shirt and a guitar signed by the biggest names in the music industry.

New Music Festival

A new free music festival started this week at London’s iconic St Pancras International train station.  The music festival will run for six weeks which will see over 100 musicians playing the mainstage.  The opening act was BRIT and Mercury nominated band Guillemots who sang tracks from their upcoming album Walk The River. This is a great opportunity for you to catch yourself some live music so get down and check out the bands.  Did we mention that it is free?
