Disco legend Donna Summer, born LaDonna Adrian Gaines has passed away. The cause of death has been revealed as lung cancer. Summer had been battling the disease for some years. Tributes have poured out from musicians and industry professionals. Jon Landau, the chairman of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has revealed regrets not inducting Summer sooner despite the late singer being nominated several times, “Regrettably, despite being nominated on a number of occasions, our voting group has failed to recognize her – an error I can only hope is finally and permanently rectified next year.”

Husband and Wife band Handsome Furs have called it a day. They released a statement on their website – “With a heavy heart the time has come to let all of you know that Handsome Furs are no more. Michael Eavis, founder and boss of Glastonbury has revealed that he has asked Adele to headline nest year’s festival. However, the multiplatinum singer has turned down the offer. The iconic crystal glove has been put forward for auction. The late singers costumes are clothes will be auctioned off in December with the funds raised going to charity. The glove is set to make £252,540 when it goes under the hammer.
A rare photograph of The Beatles walking in the opposite direction across Abbey Road is up for auction and is expected to earn £9000. The photograph was taken by Iain Macmillian and it shows the band walking in the opposite direction of the picture used for their album Abbey Road.

A new movie about New York’s infamous punk club CBGB’s is due to start filming soon. Alan Rickman will play club owner Hilly Kristal.
Lady Gaga has faced a ban from performing in the Indonesian capital Jakarta. Gaga was due to perform in the country in June however due to her character and career defining stylistic choices she has met with opposition from government bodies who feel that her risque costumes and songs are hazardous to the youth.
The iTunes Festival returns later this year and some of the performers have already been revealed. Artists who will be taking to the stage at London’s Roundhouse this year include Jack White, One Direction and Usher.
BBC Radio 6 was announced as the radio station of the year at the Sony Radio Academy Awards. Congratulations.
