June 20th sees the release of Biffy Clyro’s first live CD and DVD release. Mountains (Live at Wembley Arena is released through 14th Floor Records, home to The Wombats and Joshua Radin and showcases the bands best known and loved songs to date. For Biffy Clyro this is just one of the many events of an already hectic summer of music, being firm favourites on the festival circuit they will also be supporting Foo Fighters at their Milton Keynes National Bowl on June 2nd and 3rd.
Melismatic musician Gil Scott Heron sadly passed away on Friday. The 62 year old will be remembered as an inspiration in the rap community and prolific in many contemporary artists catalogue. Scott-Heron released more than 20 albums in his 40 year tenure in music, being sampled by many an artist, his final release in 2010 I’m New Here was released after a 16 year sabbatical but was demonstrable in his relevance in contemporary rap, RnB and Hip Hop.
Last week MTTM brought you news of Miles Kane’s solo tour. Due to the phenomenal interest and success of ticket sales an extra date has been added. Miles Kane will be playing a second show at London’s Electric Ballroom on the 26th of October. Tickets can be purchased at www.gigsandtours.com.
Grammy Award winner Lenny Kravitz is set to have a busy 2011. With plans to release new single Stand in June, the first single to come off his ninth studio album Black and White America the rock legend plans to tour Europe. On June 30th Hyde Park plays host to Arcade Fire who have included the UK for3 days of their tour. However due to impressive demand on ticket sales the promoters has announced extra ticket allocation. Supporting the band on these dates include Mumford and Sons, The Vaccines, Beirut and Owen Pallet. Tickets cost £48.50 and are available at www.livenation.co.uk.
Saturday 4th June sees Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts in a new role as DJ doing an exclusive set at London’s Hoxton Bar and Kitchen. It is set to be a busy week for the Love Machine singer as her debut solo single Beat of my Drum is released the following day. Entry for this event is free.
It has been announced Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple, Trapeze and currently of Black Country Communion is set to have his own radio show. From Sunday the 5th of June you will be able to listen to Hughes wax lyrical and play you the some of the most seminal (and of course some of his favourite) music via Planet Rock. Punk Rock Prom Queen Avril Lavigne is back. Earlier this year she released her fourth studio album Goodbye Lullaby, Lavigne is set for her first dates in the UK since her Best Damn Thing tour in 2008. American rock legend Lenny Kravitz is set to release his latest album Black and White America this Summer. Kravitz will spend the autumn touring Europe with the album. The 27 date tour features only one stop to the UK. Tickets go on sale at 9am Friday June 3rd and are £34.50 subject to booking fee.
