New Music: I Dream In Colour

An awesome band I had the pleasure of opening my lug holes to recently are I Dream In Colour. They were one of the first bands to perform at Chazzstock festival a couple of weeks ago, and definitely had the crowd captivated.

These four guys from Essex and Herts offer up perfect slices of indie music. They have a frontman that can actually sing – I mean really, properly, scale all the notes, borderline operatic sing, and their music has a beautiful, melodic charm that makes for brilliant, easy listening on any occasion. The group offer Led Zeppelin inspired rhythms with the energy of Talking Heads, and the song writing skills of Radiohead. I Dream In Colour certainly make for an intriguing listen, and with their name taken from a John Lennon quote, these guys are giving themselves some pretty big footsteps to walk in.

The band themselves that they are not trying to reinvent the wheel – they are instead content in providing consistently good indie music. Debut single Strangest Place showcases that perfectly. If you could imagine what Coldplay would sound like if they were good (or at least carried on the Parachutes route) then this would be it.

Follow-up single London, which was released in May, is a slightly more jolly affair. Judges voice again makes the track between the heartfelt, controlled verses and building up to the song’s climax, his tone and ability combined with the melody makes for spectacular listening.

The band are currently taking part in “The Sofa Sessions” – a series of intimate gigs in selected fans’ homes. But if you’re not lucky enough to be one of (or make friends with one of) said fans, you can catch I Dream In Colour live pretty soon at one of their BT London Live Shows on August 9th in both Victoria Park and Hyde Park.
