New Music: Natives

New band Natives recently unleashed their quirky charm on the world with the group’s official debut single This Island.

The quintet started life as the band Not Advised, although that incarnation has now long been forgotten. In their place is this more confident, punchier band, who will draw you in with their infectiously catchy power-pop sound. The group’s sound is strong, and it is clear the five piece have been taking notes from the likes of Kids in Glass Houses and You Me At Six, who they recently supported.

This indie sensation definitely cannot be pigeonholed as your stereotypical rock band – the lyrics Natives have penned are clever and honest and will resonate with anyone. A personal favourite line of mine is taken from their recent debut single: “I’m gonna set this place on fire so my future’s looking brighter“. This track captures the festival spirit, and has even caught the eye (or should that be ear?) of Kerrang Radio and the BBC.

To really experience everything that Natives have to offer, however, you have to catch their exhilarating live show. Their energy will leave you gasping for your oxygen mask, not to mention Jim Thomas’s vocals, which will make your heart swoon. The group have already achieved their own headline tour as Not Advised, but it’s their upcoming October tour dates supporting Mayday Parade that can’t be missed. This band will leave you in awe – Natives will soon be the band on everyone’s lips.
