Taking over Robin Hill Country Park on the Isle of Wight for another year, Rob Da Bank’s Bestival has a habit of grabbing some pretty big Sunday night headliners. Last year it was Stevie Wonder, this year it’s the only UK festival performance of Sir Elton John. And if that isn’t enough of an incentive to pick up tickets, on the other side of the musical sphere are Snoop Dogg, Wu Tang Clan, MIA, The Flaming Lips, Franz Ferdinand and Fatboy Slim.

As ever Bestival is also a hot bed of up and comers, with previous years seeing Alt-J and Jessie Ware on the bill. This year London Grammar, The 1975, Tom Odell and Peace are probably worth a watch, among dozens of others. If you’re up for something a bit different, you could also try bluegrass singer Valerie June or jazz saxophone legend Courtney Pine. You’ll also find Lissie, Moulettes, Sean McGowan and Ethan Ash playing over the weekend if your tastes are somewhat folkier. Suffice to say Bestival has, as expected, one of the most interesting lineups of the summer.

Music aside, there’s a list of alternative entertainment as long as the line-up – a cinema, a poetry collective, an art club and a disco shed immediately standing out. Head up the Grassy Hill or through the Wishing Tree Field to explore some of the weird and wonderful treats and secret woodland performances that will inevitably be on offer.

Bestival runs from Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th September 2013. For tickets and more information, visit www.bestival.net
